After a pair of podium results at the most recent round of the Fanatec GT World Challenge America Powered by AWS at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA), Seth Lucas is looking to keep that streak alive this weekend. Set to battle the Virginia International Raceway (VIR), Lucas will once again be back behind the wheel of his MDK Motorsports prepared and Motul USA-branded #53 Porsche 992.
Returning to VIR, Lucas has a solid foundation of history at the Virginia-based facility having earned two pole positions and two victories there in 2022, including his first career victory in SRO competition. Wanting nothing more than to repeat that in 2023, Seth has his sights set high as he enters the race weekend.
“We are riding a wave of momentum right now and entering a track that I feel suits not only my driving style but our team as well,” explained Lucas. “We have done very well on the faster-flowing type of circuits and VIR is one of those types. I am looking forward to once again being able to fight for podium results, and hope that elusive win can come this weekend.”
Partnered with Trenton Estep in the two-driver program, the young duo has been a force week in and week out this season. Making a name for themselves along the way, Lucas has been able to show his speed despite being at such a young age.
Lucas continued, “I believe I am the youngest driver in the series, and some may think that is a negative, but I use it to my advantage. I have a lot to learn and have learned a lot already, but I know that win is on the horizon, and would like nothing more than to give that winning trophy to the team this weekend.”
Kicking off the traditional three-day race weekend, Lucas will enjoy a pair of practice sessions on Friday before the serious competition starts Saturday. With a pair of qualifying sessions Saturday morning that will set the starting grid for race one and two, the first wheel-to-wheel action will commence that afternoon. Sunday will see the final green flag of the weekend with the second of two races, and hopeful victory for the MDK Motorsports and Motul USA programs.
