Moving right along with the 2023 Fanatec GT World Challenge Presented by AWS season, Seth Lucas and his co-driver earned another podium result this past weekend. Taking on the VIRginia International Raceway (VIR), the Motul Racing branded MDK Motorsports #53 Porsche entry improved in both wheel-to-wheel races finishing third and sixth.
“It was another good weekend, and another weekend of learning and adding to our 2023 podium total,” expressed Lucas. “We had some issues but overcame them as a team to take home some more hardware and additional points to our season-long total.”
With a practice day to fine-tune their machine on Friday, Saturday began with a pair of qualifying sessions as each driver had their turn to make a run at the pole position. Lucas was behind the wheel for the first timed session and pushed hard to score the fourth fastest time and P4 starting spot. The second qualifying session set the grid for race two on Sunday and Estep was behind the wheel but unfortunately suffered a setback that saw them well down the running order. Forced to start from the tail of the field on Sunday, it was going to be necessary to have a good start and work their way to the front quickly.
Saturday afternoon featured the first wheel-to-wheel race of the weekend and Lucas took the green flag. Holding station and battling at the front of the field, Estep took over the controls at the mid-race distance. Running a drama-free race, the #53 entry crossed the line third and earned another podium result.
Sunday saw Estep start the race before Lucas took over in the second half and while they started deep in the field, the young duo turned some heads in their methodic move toward the front. While Lucas hopped in to finish out the 90-minute long affair, he was able to gain some additional positions in the late stages of the race and earned a sixth-place result for MDK Motorsports, a valiant effort after starting deep in the field.
Lucas added “A huge thank you to Porsche, Motul and MDK Motorsports for all the help and continued support. For a new program, we are performing well, and that first win is coming.”
