With a successful and winning 2022 race season now in the rearview mirror, Motul USA-branded driver Seth Lucas is set for an upgrade in 2023. Making the move to the Porsche brand, Lucas will race out of the MDK Motorsports program as he eyes the SRO Motorsports Group-promoted Fanatec World Challenge Powered by AWS program.
“The race season just ended but I am already anxious to get the 2023 season started,” expressed Seth Lucas. “I am thankful to have the opportunity to join the MDK Motorsports family as we have goals and aspirations that are aligned with one another. I learned a lot this past year and can’t wait to put those experiences and knowledge to use in my run for additional race wins and a series title.”
“We are extremely excited by the signing of such a young talent like Seth Lucas, four-time winner in 2022 including events in the Trans-Am Series, GT America, and the Indianapolis 8-Hour, and the prospect of an incredible 2023 season with the new Porsche 992 GT3 R,” explained Team Principal Will Bamber. “The line-up of Lucas and Porsche Carrera Cup North America graduate and 2018 Champion, Trenton Estep, is a winning one. Preparation is in full swing, and March cannot come soon enough.”
Competing in the Pirelli GT4 America for the first half of 2022, Lucas switched to the GT America and a single-driver effort for the last half of the season where he enjoyed increased driving time and green flag competition which allowed the success to follow.
Lucas added, “The best thing we did was allow me to get more seat time in green flag conditions. That switch allowed me to develop as a driver, something that I can do more with MDK Motorsports in 2023. Additionally, I can’t wait to continue our work with Motul and Motul USA on an even bigger platform and help expand their footprint in North American motorsports.”
“When we started MDK we wanted to create a team where young drivers could find a home to develop their skill and talent,” added Mark Kvamme. “Seth has quickly demonstrated his talent behind the wheel, and we look forward to him and Trenton competing for the SRO GTWC Championship!”
MDK Motorsports is Porsche centric sportscar team, operating teams in Porsche Carrera Cup, Porsche Sprint Challenge, and now GT World Challenge North America. In their inaugural season (2022), MDK secured driver championships in both the Porsche Carrera Cup and Porsche Sprint Cup Challenge North America series. Operating out of the former racing shop for Meyer Shank Racing, the Central Ohio-based MDK Motorsports team is led by owner and driver, Mark Kvamme, alongside his wife and team CEO, Megan Kvamme, and Team Principal, Will Bamber.
With just over six months until the start of the North American season, Seth Lucas will compete on many of the same circuits that he had done so this past year. Set for an extensive test winter test program, Lucas will also pilot a Porsche at the upcoming 24 Hours of Dubai over the January 12-15 weekend at the Dubai Autodrome from January 12-15.
